A Quick History

Super dimension Fortress Macross (超時空要塞マクロス Chō Jikū Yōsai Makurosu, literal transaltation Super Spacetime Fortress Macross) is the first anime on the Macross anime series. It is the first series that started the Macross metaseries, and is the first series in the Super Dimension trilogy (The 3 part Robotech Trilogy). Created in 1982, the Super dimension Fortress Macross anime series (or SDF Macross) was created by Studio Nue, Artland and Tatsunoko Production; while being financially supported by the Big West Advertising agency.

What followed not too long after the ending of the first Macross series, a theatrical movie adaptation titled The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? Was released and a prequel, Macross Zero in 2008. It also received a modern manga adaptation, Super Dimension Fortress Macross The First. Due to its popularity, a sequel Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II: Lovers Again OVA was released in 1992, although it would not involve many key staff from Studio Nue.

It was later adapted as the first part of Robotech by Carl Macek and Harmony Gold.
